WHAT IS REFLECTIONS?

Reflections is a nation wide arts competition that has been running for more than 50 years! Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This art is then evaluated by professional artist judges and celebrated at the school, council, district, state and even national level!

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Every student at Solis Park School can participate in Reflections. Students can enter in the Primary (K-2nd), Intermediate (3rd-5th) or Middle School (6th-8th) Divisions. There is also a Special Artist Division for students receiving services through IDEA or ADA.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO PARTICIPATION

  1. THINK ABOUT THE THEME

Your student should spend time thinking about what this year’s theme means to them. For the 2023-24 school year, the theme is

Allow your student to decide what this theme means to them, and how they might express that idea in an original piece of art.

  2. CHOOSE YOUR ARTISTIC CATEGORY

There are six categories of art to choose from in Reflections. They are:

  3. READ THE RULES

Once your student has an idea and has chosen their artistic category, be sure you read over the rules for that category.

    📜 Dance Choreography Rules
    📜 Photography Rules
    📜 Film Production Rules
    📜 Visual Arts Rules
    📜 Literature Rules
    📜 Special Artist Rules
    📜 Music Composition Rules

  4. CREATE YOUR ART!

Your art should be a new, original piece of work which reflects this year’s theme and adheres to the rules above. Your art may include other people (i.e. your dance choreography may include other dancers, or your film production might have other actors), but only one artist may submit a piece of work, and the work must be their original idea. The art will be judged on its interpretation of the theme, creativity, and technique.

  5. SUBMIT YOUR WORK

Use this STUDENT ENTRY FORM to make your submission.

SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13th, 2023

Within the submission form, your student will be asked to write an original Artist Statement regarding the meaning of their work. This statement will be read by the judges and should be written by the student. If the student is unable to type, they may dictate their statement to someone for typing.

  6. CELEBRATE!

Within a few days of submitting the Student Entry Form above, you will be contacted via email by the Solis Park Reflections Chair. The Reflections Chair will keep you up to date about judging, awards, advancement, or any need for your student to bring in their actual physical art for display.
